Name of tour: Unique creation of nature
Length: 4 days
Places of interest: Ashgabat, Nisa, Kovata, Darwaza
Day 1: Ashgabat
Our driver and guide will meet you at the airport in Ashgabat, capital city of Turkmenistan. Then you will be transferred to the hotel and have a rest. Guided city tour will start in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m. It includes main touristic sightseeings as parks, monuments, mosques and other interesting places. Later on there will be organized lunch for you. Then we will continue our tour to Old Nisa. Just over nine miles to the west of the city lies the site of Nisa, the ancient capital of the Parthian empire. Upon the hill are the remnants of the earthen ramparts that encircle the inner complexes where archaeological wonders of the empire were discovered. Moreover we will visit mosque and mausoleum of the first President of Turkmenistan.
Day 2: Ashgabat – Kovata
As soon as you have a breakfast and passed hotel check out we will see the National museum. Then we will travel to Kovata. On the northern slopes of the Kopet Dag mountains, just over sixty miles from Ashgabat, lies the enigmatic underground lake of Kovata, or ‘Father of Caves’. Visitors flock for the healing powers of the sulphur springs here. Accommodation is in a hotel.
Day 3: Kovata – Darwaza
After breakfast we will return to Ashgabat. There will be a lunch in local restaurant. At 3:00 p.m. we will keep travelling to Darwaza passing Karakum desert. The gates of the fiery depths are in the middle of the Turkmenistani desert. Approximately 160 miles north of the capital Ashgabat, an enormous crater burns with sulphuric flames, illuminating the clouds above and blasting heat for miles around. In the late 1960s, Soviet engineers suspected the site to contain massive oil reserves. The drilling rig they built collapsed to create a crater 230 feet wide and 20 feet deep. In a bid to burn off the excess gases, the Soviets lit the crater and it has been burning constantly ever since. Located in the province of Ahal, the village of Darwaza - meaning "gate" - is the base from which to visit the mighty crater and see its hypnotic flames, and the best way to view it is at night. Many visitors take the opportunity to camp nearby and explore the vast, arid plains of the Karakum desert. To the northwest, the beautiful and lush Kaplankyr nature reserve provides a green oasis and numerous activities for the outward-bound adventurer. Home to nomadic Turkmen horsemen, a popular way to enjoy the landscape surrounding Darwaza is on a steed of your own. Overnight is in a home stay.
Day 4: Darwaza – Ashgabat
After breakfast drive back to Ashgabat. After lunch city tour, see main touristic attraction, evening Ashgabat. Night is in a hotel.
