Length: 3 days
Places of interest: Ashgabat, Nisa, Mary, Farap
Day 1: Ashgabat
Our team will wait you at international airport in Ashgabat and accompany to the hotel where you will have a rest. In the afternoon we will continue travelling to Nisa. It was the center of Palace and temple buildings. Here were the graves of members of the Arshakid dynasty who ruled during the city's heyday, the Royal Treasury, wine storage, and warehouses with supplies. According to the decision of the government of Turkmenistan, the Nisa settlement was declared a State archaeological reserve. In 2007, the ruins of the Parthian fortress were included in the UNESCO world heritage list as one of the most interesting monuments of the history of the ancient States of the East. Further we will see in Gypjak mosque and mausoleum of the late President of Turkmenistan. Overnight is in a hotel.
Day 2: Ashgabat – Mary/ Merv
In the morning you will visit National Museum of History. You will have a lunch and then we will continue our tour to Mary city. It was one of the oldest cities in Central Asia, located on the banks of the Murgaba river. In its heyday, Marv could well be considered one of the most precious pearls of the East, which for five centuries shone and shimmered against the backdrop of powerful empires of ancient dynasties, invariably being either their capital or the largest and most beloved city of the shahs. Mary is an important city in the southeast of Turkmenistan, an oasis in the desert with a long and fascinating history. Named for the mother of Jesus because in Kerait tradition, she is buried here. However, originally named Marv, it was historically a popular stop on the Silk Road; later it was occupied by Russia until Turkmenistan established independence, after which it became the capital of Mary province. The modern city of Mary is the base from which to discover the nearby ancient sites of wonder. The city's museum contains exhibitions and displays to give visitors a good foundation for exploring the surrounding area. Each city (or "kala") within the vast complex of historic Marv tells its own story of a slice of Turkmenistan's amazing history from the 7th century BC until well past the Medieval period. And, even further back, the excavation site at Gonur Depe marks central Turkmenistan as one of the earliest seats of civilization in the world. There will be little break at Annau. You will spend the night is in a hotel.
Day 3: Farap
In the morning you will have a morning hotel checkout. We will walk and enjoy an ancient Merv which played significant role during Silk Road time for more than 2000 years. Also we will visit mausoleums of Sultan Sanjar and Muhammed ibn-Zeyd. The mausoleum of Sultan Sanjar is the most magnificent and amazing building of the 11th century, created by order of Sultan Muizeddin Sanjar. Its height can amaze even a modern person-38 meters. After his death, the Sultan was buried in this very mausoleum, but during the Mongol invasion of Merv, where the building itself was located, the remains of the Sultan were moved to another place. Since then, under the arches of the mausoleum there is nothing but dead emptiness. For many believers today, the mausoleum is a sacred place where thousands of pilgrims flock. The mausoleum of Muhammad Ibn Zeid is located on the suburban territory of the capital of the seljukid state, built around 1112. It is also a monument of Sultan Kala. Muhammad Ibn Zeid became famous in his homeland for organizing an uprising against the Arab caliphs, which, unfortunately, was brutally suppressed, and the leader himself was executed. His head was cut off and a mausoleum was built on the place where it was buried, which eventually grew into a magnificent architectural complex. Later on we will keep travelling to Turkmenabat city and move to the Turkmen-Uzbek border Farap.
