6 - The Great Silk Road is, in fact, a network of routes that played a very important role in the lives of many people in Eurasia. It was an important artery in ancient and medieval times, a source of goods, information, and the starting point of many conflicts and wars. Along this route came into existence, and then into disrepair, many nations and cultures, great powers, shopping centers and many major cities of the former empires in the world. Commercial centers and capitals of these kingdoms emerged and flourished fame, and then fell and fell.
The Great Silk Road is one of the most important achievements in the history of world civilization. The widespread network of caravan ways crossed Europe and Asia from China to the Mediterranean and was used in ancient times as an important means of business and cultural exchange between East and West. The longest part of the Silk Road was in the area of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. Caravans laden with silk from China, spices and precious stones from India, silver goods from Iran, Byzantine clothes, Turkish slaves Afrasiabian ceramics, and many other goods through the Kara-Kum Kum and Kyzyl-deserts, the boundless steppes of Sary moved-Arka , passed over the ridges of the Pamir and Tien Shan, the Altai Mountains and the Karatau, crossed the river Murghab, Amu Darya and Syr Darya.
On the road of the caravans were rich settlements and towns - Merv (Turkmenistan), Bukhara, Samarkand, Khiva and Urgench (Uzbekistan); Otrar, Taras and Chimkent (Kazakhstan); Dgul, Suyab, Novokent, Balasagun, Borskon, Tash-Rabat, Uzgen and Osh (Kyrgyzstan).
The first, the southern branch ran from Termez via Samarkand to Dushanbe present site of, along a tributary of Kyzyl-Su on up to Alai and leave the field of modern Irkishtam where it turned towards Kashgar.
The second, the Fergana branch of Samarkand on Hodjent led to Isfara, Kokand and Osh.
The third, North Branch came from Zamin Rabat to Tashkent, Isfidjab (Chimkent), Taras (Jambul), Nuzket (Kara-Balta) and Balasugun (Burana). From there, caravans along the boom Canyon traveled to get to the area and further to China over the San-Tash range.
The caravan traffic was at a slow pace. A good day trip covered 8 farsahs (50 km), a not so good 4 farsahs (25 km). The composition of the caravan trains varied. There are numerous records of some large load trains with up to 10,000 animals. All along the route, appeared caravan sarais (meeting) at regular intervals. Torrential streams were tamed by bridges. There was little caravan traffic from China to the Mediterranean. As the international route opened access to new places, began to settled crop, next to nomadic animal husbandry.
